Course / Non-Credit Course

Non-credit courses are intended for students who want to gain general knowledge, learn a new skill, upgrade existing skills or develop personal interests. These courses can be an excellent way to build professional skills, prepare you for the workforce or increase your value to employers.

The course is designed to aim at imparting a basic level appreciation program for the common man. After completing the course, the incumbent is able to the use the computer for basic purposes of preparing his personnel/business letters, viewing information on internet (the web), sending mails etc. This allows a common man or housewife to be also a part of computer users list. This would also aid the PC penetration program. This helps the small business communities, housewives to maintain their small account using the computers and enjoy in the world of Information Technology.

Specific Objectives

  • Moving the cursor on-screen with the mouse or touchpad.
  • Clicking, right-clicking and double-clicking the mouse.
  • Using basic keyboard functions such as backspace, enter/return, space bar, delete, tab, shift and caps lock.
  • Basic typing skills.

Unit I: Knowing computer

    1. Concept of hardware and software
    2. Concept of computing, data and information
    3. Basic Applications of Computer
    4. Component of Computer System
    5. Application of ICT
    6. Bringing computer to life
  • Typing, Finding, running and closing a program.
  •  Files, folders and directories work.
  • Saving a file.
  • Using Windows Explorer to find and open a file.
  • Shutting down and restarting a computer.

Unit II: Operating computer using GUI based OS.

    1. Basic of operating system.
    2. The user interface.
    3. Operating system simple settings.
    4. File and directory management.
    5. Common utilities
  • Opening Microsoft Word.
  • Creating a new document in Word.
  • Using basic formatting functions (bold, italics, underline, font size and type).
  • Saving and printing a finished document.

Unit III Understanding word processing

    1. Word processing basic
    2. Opening and closing documents
    3. Document creation and manipulation
    4. Formatting the text
    5. Table manipulation
  • Working on excel.
  • Using basic formula
  • Maintain record of statistics data
  • Filter, order and selection of information

Unit IV: Understanding Spread Sheet

    1. Excel basic
    2. Element of electronic spread sheet.
    3. Manipulation of cells
    4. Formulas and functions
  • Connect device in network
  • Connect device in internet
  • Know status of network and internet
  • search content in web using internet
  • know threat of misuse of information
  • know power of search  engine as pool of information

Unit V: Communication using the internet, WWW and Web Browser

    1. Basic of computer network
    2. Internet
    3. World Wide Web

    6. search engines
    7. understanding URL
    8. surfing the web
  • Create email, send email, use email.
  • Signature in email
  • Know about cloud free space for document management.

Know how to collaborate between team in organization
